Ever worked from home and found yourself talking to clients and colleagues in your pyjamas, making small-talk with the goldfish, and ‘mugging’ old ladies in the street – just to get a bit of human contact?

Yep! Us too!

Currently 75% of businesses have just 1 person working in them – often working from home.  And it can be very lonely.

People who work from home can feel isolated and miss out on the opportunities a lively business environment provides. However, despite independent professionals being a major economic sector, for those outside London, even finding appropriate co-working space can be a real challenge.

Many spaces also overlook the needs of independent professionals – focussing their offering towards the more fashionable tech startup, and lack the flexibility to truly support modern, agile working lifestyles.

This leaves many independent professionals nowhere to work but their home. Phlex aims to fix that!

What is Phlex?

Phlex is a marketplace app and mobile platform which gets independent, pyjama-clad, professionals out of their bedrooms and into the world. It connects people, allowing them to share space and facilities, to thrive and build great businesses together.

We empower hotels, cafes, pubs, community centres and any venue with spare space and appropriate facilities, to rent out workspace to independent professionals. There is no longer a reason why anywhere, however small, however remote, can’t be a vibrant business hub.

A Phlex membership also gives independent professionals access to a vibrant online community and events network where they’ll find peer-to-peer support, encouragement and like-minded professionals – as well as opportunities to reach out to the wider business world.

Our intention is to be the ‘go to’ place for co-working in the UK for both the entrepreneurial and corporate markets, building a co-working community and providing the flexibility that the market craves.

Co-working is our passion!

Why?  Because it changed our lives and we see it changing the lives of others every day.

Jill Farmer (Director) – Registered Osteopath & Ergonomist specialising in office, agile and remote working.  A constant observer of people and workplace ergonomics – always looking to make things better.  With over 20 years experience in the field of office ergonomics Jill knows offices and, perhaps more importantly, the people within them and how they tick.  And as a business owner for 25 years Jill also knows what it’s like to work alone, and is passionate about the amazing power of a co-working community to help build businesses and forge lasting relationships.

Caroline Sumners (Director) – CIM qualified Marketing Consultant with 20 years experience in marketing, social media strategy, inbound marketing and marketing automation.  Having been a small business owner and worked extensively in the corporate tech environment, Caroline understands the challenges involved in making a great campaign a reality.  Ontraport and Hubspot certified, Caroline embraces the role that technology can play in helping small businesses to become big businesses.

So we came together on this project because we met at a co-working space. This not only showed us the huge benefits of co-working, but helped us to formulate a business plan and offering around this. We understand the wants and needs of co-workers and this is why we do this.

We are also starting our own co-working space alongside this because we believe in this so much.
